Description
Situated on the east coast of Sicily, just south of Taormina, Don Arcangelo all’Olmo is simply enchanting. With Mount Etna towering behind, the lush green and zesty yellows of lemon orchards all around and the turquoise waters of the Ionian Sea shimmering beyond, it is difficult to imagine a more delightful setting.
Don Arcangelo all’Olmo dates back to the early 1700s when it was the beating heart of an aristocratic wine-producing estate. At the beginning of the 19th century, it became home to the vineyard’s owners during harvest time and was filled to the ceiling with barrels of aging wine. Only around 70 years ago did the vines make way for the citrus groves that now surround the property.
At the end of the 20th century, the present owners, Andrea and Marina, Marquis and Marquess Paterno Castello di San Giuliano, transformed the villa into a sophisticated and luxurious oasis for discerning travelers. The painstaking craftsmanship of the restoration and the quality of the furnishings, fittings and artwork have ensured that Don Arcangelo all’Olmo’s contemporary comforts (en-suite bedrooms, a 20m-long heatable pool, a sea-view Jacuzzi and a gym) blend in seamlessly with the original fabric of the property. Step outside and you will be equally charmed by the colorful, beautifully planted grounds, whose design harks back to the Arabic belief that gardens should be a place of delight and wonder. None of this would add up to so much, however, if it weren’t for the warm hospitality of the hosts and the full-time staff, including chef; their welcome ensures not only that guests feel at home, but also wish it was their home.
